How we teach Music at St Thomas'

I like the beat and sound of music. I enjoy playing the Glockenspiel because it is fun learning how to play it. I used to be in the school choir which I really enjoyed. I’ve been a part of ‘St Thomas’ Got Talent’ sow where I sang ‘Black Magic.’ I was nervous but it was great! Jannat Y3

I like singing and dancing. I enjoy playing Glockenspiels. My favourite song that we’ve been taught is ‘Lean on me’ from Mrs Lane. I am part of the school choir and I love to take part in the Talent Show. Lucie Y2

I like music because it’s really nice to listen to and sing along with. I love being in the school choir and playing the Djembes. I have also had to opportunity to play recorders and glockenspiels. I loved performing with the choir in the Music festival. Jesse – Year 4

At St Thomas’ we teach music through an engaging and interactive resource called Charanga. Charanga corresponds with the national curriculum for music, following the strands below:

-Listening and Appraising

-Musical Activities

-Warm-up Games

-Singing

-Playing instruments

-Improvisation

-Composition

-Performing

-Learning Progression

Alongside this scheme, Mrs Lane also provides wider opportunities; Glockenspiels and recorders for Years 3 and 4 and a school choir that partakes in many performances throughout the year.

Mrs Bridges holds a weekly guitar club for our Year 6 pupils. Bolton Music Service provides weekly Djembe lessons for Years 3 and 4.

Throughout the year children have the opportunity to partake in and perform in a school Talent Show; to let their light shine.
