Our school follows the Blackburn Diocese syllabus which is supplemented by the ‘Understanding Christianity’ resource.  The curriculum has a large focus on Christianity, but children also cover units on Islam and Judaism.

R.E. Quality Mark Gold

St Thomas’ are extremely proud to have achieved the GOLD award for the national RE Quality Mark. The REQM recognises high quality learning in religious education and the award is recognition for all the hard work that takes place at St Thomas’ on a daily basis. A huge thank you and congratulations to all of the children, parents, staff, governors and the wider community for this wonderful achievement.

Here is a short extract taken from the assessors report:

RE underpins the whole curriculum and ethos of this school. There is an innovative and interesting curriculum, based on a diocesan syllabus, which is supplemented by an array of practical opportunities including music, dance, drama, art and design. These activities are enhanced through close community links with parents, a local mosque and the church. RE innovations drive the whole school curriculum e.g. big questions in language and literacy, assessment and feedback across different subjects, core values and creativity in curriculum activities.

The RE is very well led and managed by an experienced RE coordinator. She supports a number of schools in the locality in delivering to a network of coordinators, but also in a wider diocesan context. She has established effective links with other schools to share good practice. Named governors are actively involved in monitoring and supporting the key drivers for the school of high attainment and progress for all. This is truly as school with a soul.
